Little Western is the fourth and final story of Enterprising Engines.

Plot[]

This story begins with the send off of Flying Scotsman, after his brief time on Sodor cheering up Gordon being sent off to the Caledonian twins singing "Will ye no come back again?" Later that day Douglas told the others about Oliver, the others were intrigued and fearing he would be abducted by a mainland diesel they wanted to help, the others decided that Douglas should tell the Fat Controller so he would be safe. Douglas tries to retort, scared that the Fat Controller will think Douglas is interfering. Just then the Fat Controller arrived at the sheds, an awkward silence falls which is broken by Duck, reminding the Fat Controller of the fact they need another engine.

The Fat Controller replies saying he has given 7101 another chance. The engines were dismayed by this and Gordon replied stating they had hoped for a "Real" engine. The Fat Controller announces that it is now hard to find a steam engine (after dieselization) and states that unless one escapes from scrap there is little hope. Donald bursts out saying there is an engine who has escaped, continuing Donald's sentence, the Fat Controller states that thanks to Douglas he is at the works. The Fat Controller says that Oliver's crew told him everything, Douglas plays it off, and the Fat Controller continues stating that Oliver, Isabell, and Toad are just what's needed on Duck's branchline.

Toad wanted to be Douglas' brakevan of which Douglas was pleased. 7101 was given a good word by Henry, his constant growling of his engine got him a nickname which stuck, Bear, which he very much likes over a number. Oliver went on to work on Duck's branch with Isabell, and shortly afterwards the Fat Controller rescued 3 more Auto coaches, Alice and Mirabel went to Duck and Dulcie joined Oliver and Isabell. Duck and Oliver would run trains from the big station to the small railway, the big engines at first laughed and called the branch "The Little Western" of which Duck and Oliver where delighted.
